| SCADA
for OIL FIELD PRODUCTION AUTOMATION |
|
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
The existing automation technology was 20 years
old and consisted of custom software that ran on a mainframe computer.
Instead of alarms being reported to the field, they were sent
to headquarters which then had to send an alarm notification to
the field. Addition of new devices required custom drivers to
be developed.
REALFLEX SOLUTION:
RealFlex was selected and installed to integrate several
different types of field I/O devices through standard drivers and
allow local alarm monitoring. Critical information is then sent
back to the mainframe at headquarters through a custom interface.
System has the ability to dial into headquarters for maintenance
and support capabilities.
RESULTS:
Alarms are immediately registered in the field, allowing
for instantaneous action. This saves time and reduces the reporting
burden on headquarters operations personnel.
EXPANSION PLANS:
In certain areas RealFlex may provide a local operator
interface for locations not manned 24 hours a day. BJScan will be
used to tie the outlying RealFlex systems, which will include Modicon
and Allen Bradley PLCs, into the central control location. In other
locations, an interface to the gas plant's distributed control system
may be implemented for transfer of critical alarm and flow information.
